Description

Last semester I made this baboon doll inspired by King Narmer, the first pharaoh of unified Egypt. (31st century BCE) It was believed in ancient Egypt, that baboons were in fact deceased ancestors. The alpha males were identified specifically as deceased rulers, and were called “The Great White Ones”. King Narmer is often depicted in images as having transformed into a white baboon, which inspired my project. The pieces of the doll are made of sculpy, painted in acrylic, and hooked together with movable joints. I hand crafted the collar out of various paper and embroidery floss, then sealed the pieces with a gloss varnish to protect from waring and chipping.
